BOOK REVIEWS

In as much as I love traveling and exploring, I also love reading.  Here are reviews of the books I have read so far.  For those of you who are looking for something to read or simply searching for thoughts on a book you have heard of, I hope you will find this page useful.

  1.  When Breath Becomes Air by Paul Kalanithi.  This book comes out as one of my favorite books this year.  It is heavy with technical details, even heavier with the drama.  It is the story of a neurosurgeon who, at the peak of his career, got diagnosed with inoperable lung cancer.  The story revolves around his experiences with his patients as a doctor to eventually becoming one. In this book, Paul Kalanithi somehow gives us a picture of how he dealt with facing his own mortality.  A gifted writer and doctor,  his words are spell-binding and this book definitely a must-read.
  2. The Husband’s Secret by Liane Moriarty.   A friend of mine shared this book with me, and I was initially anxious about reading it because it does not belong to my favored genre.  But Liane Moriarty surprised me with her wit.  She kept me glued.  This is the story of a woman  who is confronted with the decision to open a note she found for her from her husband, which explicitly states:  “to be opened only in the event of my death.”  It talks about the things we know, the things we don’t, and whether or not we ever get to choose. Above all, though, it’s about how we must live with the consequences of our actions – whether we like it or not.
  3. Big Little Lies by Liane Moriarty.
