About

_MG_1895new

It has almost been five years now since I set foot in the Czech Republic.  Originally from the Philippines, I first came to the United States in search for “greener pastures.”   Living there for several years, I thought it was going to be home for me.  But little did I know that the stars had a different plan for me.  I met and fell in love with a Czech Man.

Like all great love stories, ours involved marriage and children.  After several years of living in the States and weighing the advantages and disadvantages of raising a family there, we decided to settle in the Czech Republic, my husband’s home country.

Since I have never lived in Europe before, I am blogging about our experiences here.  This will basically be a journal of my adventures as I try to fit into my new home – from learning the language, discovering cultural eccentricities and raising a family in a multi-cultural household.  In this blog, I hope to give you a glimpse about life in the Czech Republic through a transplant’s eyes.    I also intend to share with you personal experiences about the many beautiful places in Czech that are not normally found in tourist books.

So come with me as we journey through the Czech Republic together!

  3. Your little boy is adorable, Grace. I’ve never visited the Czech Republic. It must be very different to The USA. I look forward to reading more about your life there. 😉

    1. Yes,there are a lot of cultural differences between the US and CZ. It was a difficult adjustment in the beginning but I am now starting to appreciate everything about this country I now call home. I am hoping that through my experiences, people will see what CZ is all about. Thanks for visiting and for the gracious comment. 🙂

  4. I really have enjoyed what I’ve seen of your blog!

Recently, I’ve been looking at Au Pair jobs around Europe. A few have been in the Czech Republic. Do you have any recommendations, in regard to assimilating into the culture?

    1. Thanks, Andrea! I hope you do get to come by Czech. The best way to assimilate into the culture is to avoid all prejudices and keep an open mind. Goodluck on your adventures!

    1. No, I haven’t. Milan Kundera is one of the most intriguing writers that I hopefully would like to meet one day. I heard that he does travel back to Czech from time to time but when he does, he’s always incognito. 🙂

  16. Grace, thank you so much for stopping by my blog and giving a follow, really, really appreciated. Now you must be a good linguist to be learning Czech, with additional letters too. know all about false friends from my Portuguese days, far too many of them. Seeing different cultures is fascinating and I look forward to seeing how you get on. MM

PS apologies for delay in reverting back to you but have been away on holiday.

Although you’ve pretty much summarized your past few years of how you ended up there (as read here in your about page), I know it must be pretty amazing! Looking forward to reading your journey and being inspired even more about the world out there! ^_^

  19. Hi, Grace, thanks for visiting and glad to meet you. Your blog looks fascinating, and it looks like you’re in for a real cultural adventure. My wife enjoyed Prague on a recent business trip, and I had a great time reporting on the Manila & PhilIppines economy years ago. Best wishes to your family and baby!

  20. My plan is to visit Czech before we leave Germany. Any suggestions besides the cities? all my friends go to pottery shop

    Like

    1. There are a lot of things that CZ can offer. The only pottery shop that I’ve been to outside of Prague is at Botanicus – http://www.botanicus.cz/en . Aside from the gardens, there is a little medieval village where one of the main attractions is pottery. It is quite interesting. It is less than an hour from Prague, so it is convenient for travel.

However, my personal favorite other than Prague is Cesky Krumlov. http://www.ckrumlov.info/docs/en/kaktualita.xml
The only downside is that it is a 3-hour drive from Prague, but it is closer to Germany. You can check it out from the link above.

Other places that are interesting and closer to Prague are:
      Karlstejn Castle – http://www.hradkarlstejn.cz/en/
      Konopiste Castle – http://www.zamek-konopiste.cz/
      Pruhonice – http://www.parkpruhonice.cz/index.php?site=en&p=index
      Kutna Hora – http://www.kutnahora.cz/?lns=en

      I hope this helps.

Thanks for visiting my blog and please feel free to ask any questions.

Thanks for spotting my blog and for the follow. It’s still a bit new, so not that much on there yet – but it’s varied, so I hope you’ll like it. It takes time to get followers, so I treasure all my ‘newbies’ still 🙂
